Question 1:

I see "2 vintage tuba mouthpieces" on Ebay with "BK1" and "BK2" scratched onto them. My old E flat has "BK2" scratched onto it in a couple of places. Tuba has no serial number. The "BK2" was obviously done by an amature. Does this mean anything to anybody? Was it an inventory marking for a school? Did I find the mouthpiece that goes with my horn?

Question 2:

My old junky looking tuba has marginal valves. Horn just doesn't seem to me to blow as easily as it should. No leaks elsewhere in the horn. I have fixed all of them. I feel like most of the time you have to push (force) the note through the darn thing. Is it possible to tell me what is characteristic of valve problems and how much better it would play with a valve job. Heavy oil seems to help. Do you know where I could get them fixed? I could take out the valve section myself if it would save some bucks, and re-solder back in. Don't want so spend a fortune on it.
