Yeah, Jason------I saw the telecast, and was impressed with Deck's performance. Especially, the "snatch breath" on the low GG flat towards the end of "Till Eulenspiegel". I played tuba on that piece a few months ago, and was driven mad by the aerobic requirements in that F to low GG flat passage where it makes the transition from FF to p subito. I don't know of any tuba player that can avoid snatch breathing and play it as Strauss wrote it; i.e., tied over in one breath Deck is a marvelous player. I don't know what horn he was playing, but it looked pretty big.
