James,
Walter Nirschl worked for years at Boehm & Meinl, and, as I understand it, bought out the company from the retiring owners in 1994 or so. Since then, the instruments have carried the label B & M Symphonic. The instruments have also been referred to as Nirschl tubas, since they were designed by Walter Nirschl. For what it's worth, Geretsried is about 30Km South of Munich, in Bavaria. I've had the opportunity to play a B & M Symphonic CC, and it was a very, very fine instrument.
