The best false-pedal Eb I ever found was on my old three-valve King from the 1930's with a fixed recording bell. There have been 3 or 4 of them on Ebay recently, going for widely different prices. When I was in high school I got into the all-eastern MENC orchestra and had a Couperin part that went down to a D with many ledger lines. I rigged up a hose to attach to my third valve slide for that note and practiced installing and removing it while counting rests, but when I got to Atlantic City I quickly abandoned it in favor of second valve with the false pedal note. In the same concert I had to play a Brahms contra-bassoon part that went down to Eb. It came out pretty good on the LP.
