I purchased a 983 Eb around two years ago and couldn't be happier with its sound and flexibility in all registers. I've used it in large ensemble, chamber and solo situations. Personally, I've never played a F that has as open a low register as my horn. But, you may want to try the Yamaha 822 F if you haven't already. It was a close second when I chose my smaller horn.
