If you are willing to go just above your stated $3000 price range, you can get a new Meinl Weston 25 from Baltimore Brass Company:

In addition, you might want to look into the VMI 2103 at $3295 new...very similar to the Miraphone and Meinl Weston models. Brasswind also has a scratch and dent VMI 2103 described in their latest sale catalog as being in excellent condition with a few marks from bell repair for sale for $2425. They have another one described in similar condition for $2586. Getting back to what you have your eye on, they have several scratch and dent Miraphone 186's for sale at prices of $3695.50, $3447.00, $3695.00, and another at $3695.00
You have a lot of choices for your $3000 or so, so take your time and don't settle for something you don't like.
