Leland, take a Yama-321 and a Conn sousa (even fiberglass) behind a screen and play the beginning of Holst Suite #1 to the best of your ability behind a screen for three or four good band directors. NONE of them will pick the Yama-321 sound, I predict.

I did this test for a band director with his back turned. The sousaphone sounded so much better, he started laughing uncontrollably at his decades-long misperception about "all" large concert tubas vs. sousaphones.

The 201M is the same instrument as the 321. Anything that sounds better INDOORS sounds better OUTDOORS.
