I was playing duets today with another tubist, and he pulled out his new edition of the Blazhevich Concert Duets, arranged for two tubas by Jason Atkinson and published by Encore Music. Very nice music, but as we began to play, (much to our dismay) we found page turns in nearly every duet. Nineteen duets...16 of which are two pages long, and 3 which are one page. ALL 16 of the two page duets were printed beginning on the right, then an impossible page turn to finish on the left. What would possess a publisher to print in this manner, rather than spring for one more sheet of paper, begin number one on page two (the left), and have NO page turns during the music? Any of you with music publishing experience have an idea?
