I don't think I've ever seen the "new" Lombardo band so I'm not sure what they're using right now. Mr.Bern Davies, one of Lombardo's first tubists, (there were a few) used a Martin 3-valve from 1929 to 1951, as did his replacement Mr. Exner who played from 1951 until 1963. I know that several of the tubists who came later also used Martins. Originally, Lombardo used a tuba but no string bass, then used both bass and tuba and finally combined the bass and tuba books. Although some people don't like the style of the band, the tuba part was orchestrated nicely on their original arrangements.
