What really worked for us, my daughter plays tuba, was to go to try out a whole bunch of mouthpieces. We did not do that initially and it was a mistake. If you live near enough (say, within 3-4 hours) to Dillon's in NJ, go there and work with Matt. (Mike Russo at) Brasswind is in South Bend, IN, and Charlie Krause is in TX somewhere (sorry, Charlie). Your son will really feel a difference.
