And that's all from car audio equipment getting much cheaper for much better performance than in years past. Stuff that's run-of-the-mill today was either prohibitively expensive, or nonexistent, fifteen or twenty years ago. True, the high-priced end these days is as insane as it's always been, but the low end can provide some pretty good bang for the buck.
It's not just urban areas, either. Some of those country types like their bass big, too (my 57-year-old uncle in Nebraska, for one).
I still think that audio systems directly influence a person's expectations of a live ensemble. Edison started a music-wide revolution, that's for sure.
