Marzan calls the euphonium a compensating euphonium, but not in the valves. He said that he did in fact make a compensating version of the horn but found that his design of the elongated slide and ring and placement of the slide did all the same things that the compensating model did, so to eliminate costs and the like, he made the model that has been referred to previously. He also states that because of the design, the low B is able to be played just as easily and in tune as any other note on the horn and the pulling the slide out all the way makes open turn to 123 (changing it from a Bb horn to an E horn).
