I got the DEG's for what appeared to me to be the same reasoning. The only problem with mine in the past has been the one lost pad.
I ended up carving one out of some old walnut I had laying around the house. Padding the new cup wasn't a problem.
I use 4 of them with my tuba students. Any size student of mine (from 5'2" to 6'0") can easily use my jupiter 582's, a yamaha 321, a yamaha 103, and a conn 5J without any problem.
