I flew on Friday to Boston and took a train into NYC. I departed from DFW. It DFW they combed over my horn, taking it our of the case etc... they used the wand o nthe case after the horn was removed. I had one security offical ask if he could run water through the horn to besure it was empty, but instead he allowed me to toot a note one it. Although, the search of my carry on bags and suitcase was much more through and time consuming. All-in-all I was not too disturbed by this measure (I have flown in Europe and experienced some similar events). Small Price to Pay. However, on the return trip, out of Wilmington, DE, I was simply asked what it {tuba} was and they opened the case nay went on. So, I guess it depends on how busy the airports are, and how suspicious you look and some other stuff.
