I play an old Conn (non fiberglass) sousaphone in band myself. I never had this problem until about a week ago when my band director told me that my bell was facing too far to the left. I adjusted it to the "correct" position, and had to bend my neck to see in front of me, and had a big blind spot to the left. I said "screw em" and turned it back like I had it. Haven't heard anything else out of 'em. So, try turning the bell to the left slightly. Good luck,
