Basically, the rotary model seemed to have some of the characteristics of a slightly bigger, freer blowing horn.

Hirsbrunner makes their 4/4 piston valve CC in a large bore model and a medium bore model. Both models have graduated bores (the bore gets bigger as it passes through the valve section). I belive that the HB2 (the rotary one) has a non-graduated bore which is similar in diameter to the bore on the HB-2P (the piston one).

I was trying to say that I'm not sure which of the HB-2P's graduated bores is equal in size to the bore of the HB-2.

I think "bore" is a particularly apt term for this aspect of playing the tuba.
