From the standpoint of a poor college student who isn't a music major, I picked Eb because they were (1) less expensive and (2) good all around horns. I play a York Eb which is large for an Eb giving it a somewhat full sound but also allowing for more stability for solos and bass bone lit. Sure I'd love a new Willson, maybe after I graduate college.

I learned on a BBb and often miss playing a BAT. Shaking the rafters is always fun but since I don't get payed to play I'm very happy with my Eb. My range is the same on either horn but it's definitely easier to get around on the Eb. I would like to get my hands on a Holton BBb for community band since there are times when the tuba section is a bit thin. As far as switching to another pitch, learning CC or F would make playing with churches and pits a bit easier I think.
