The last time I flew with a tuba was about ten years ago. I flew up to Custom Music to try out and purchase a tuba. I bought a seat for it and had no difficulties. I flew Southwest Airlines. I called prior to booking the flight and made sure everything was OK. They were familiar with musicians' traveling woes and were very accomodating. I could have checked it as baggage, as I had the horn in a gig bag inside of a case, but that's unacceptable for me. I don't imagine you would have any difficulties in the future, but right now may be a problem. Call ahead. The airlines can give you all the info/instructions you need.
