Hey Scott,

My personal preferance for ALL quintet playing is F tuba. I like a tighter feeling in a quintet and the F tuba fills that requirement for me. The smaller CC tubas can do this too, but I like the sound and feel of an F tuba for playing in a quintet.

As to the Arnold specifically, I find it far easier to blend with the other instruments on my F than a CC. I've played the Arnold on a small CC twice and several times on my F tuba and have had far fewer complications using the F tuba.

In the end, you'll have to be the final arbiter as to which instrument you'll play the Arnold on. You might want to ask the guys in your quintet to listen as you play through the first movement on your CC and then your F tuba. Let them help with the final choice… it couldn't hurt and it will be a good excercise in diplomacy for the group.

Good luck,

Bob
