My horn has some bad pitch problems, and I've got a main slide rod. My dad made it for me out of a dial rod and a thumb ring from an old Olds tuba. You grab it with your left hand, and it's connected to the main slide. I basically have a different (for lack of a better word) slide position for every note, and it takes getting used to, but it works very well, being able to play nearly every note in tune and being able to adjust really easily. It also works really well in the low register, where I can just pull it out a bunch. Good luck,
