All of my cup shapes are based on the general Helleberg style, which is a compromise between a straight funnel and a bowl. Being a trombonist myself, I designed my trombone mouthpieces that way before I knew anything about tuba mouthpieces, because I liked the results I got from that style of cup shape. I think it offers much more consistency in sound and response than the more cup shaped mouthpieces. The only drawback is they are more sensitive to having the correct backbore for any particular horn. When you get the right combination of cup and backbore for your horn, I think the overall results are superior.
