You know, a man I had a lesson with over the summer told me a story about this: back in the eighties at an ITEC, a college student is going around asking every professional how to do that particular trill. Finally he gets to John Fletcher and asks him the famous question. And Fletcher says, "Well, you can pretty much do it any way you want," picks up his tuba and plays the trill pressing completely random valves.
