Bydlo is a strange critter, indeed. It is a solo so important to us that we buy a special tuba with this short piece in mind, yet it is somewhat rarely actually played by a tubist on his or her special horn for the occasion.

I only play in an orchestra as a sub or for pick-up work, so my experience is of limited usefulness, but, in that limited experience I have come across pictures three times. Twice it was played by the 2nd trombonist on a Yamaha 321. Once I did it on my CC tuba and it went well. I recieved many compliments from the other brass players, but sure was stressed out about it. I now have a little MW 182F tuba which should make my next encounter less stressful. Honestly, I don't sound any better on the little horn, but I feel a lot more confident.
