I've done three Pictures performances in which a trombonist played Bydlo on a euphonium (a different player on each occasion). One of them, an "import" for the occasion) was quite insistant that he would play the middle tutti with no assistance from me. He did the solo very beautifully, but the tutti part was buried. The other two expected me to play the tutti, which was fine. One was the bass trombonist of the orchestra, the other was the principal. They each did a beautiful job on the solos, and it was all a huge relief to me.
