I have stumbled across a Besson Euph in a pawn shop and I would like some advice on the quailty/value of the horn.

It is a Besson 2-20, 3 valve silver horn. All the slides pull and the valves look clean without any "scarring". The water keys move but I can't tell if they seal well. It looks like some soldering was done on one of the water keys. The felts will need to be changed. The valves still have some speed but I'm not sure about the springs. There is severe flattening of the outer branch, before the bottom bow. There are no other major dents that I noticed.I gave it a blow and it sounded like it still had some life left in it.

The serial number is 552825, if anyone can identify the year of manufacture, or point me in the direction of a website with that info.

The cost is $150 US.

I usually play tuba in community groups so this would be a doubler, once I learn how to play it.

So...would it be worth picking up with the intent of investing a few hundred dollars to have it refurbished?

Thanks for your help.

Keith C.
