I still say that unless you are a pro with a very specific understanding of what you need out in the hall, and what it takes to get it, you should pick a horn that is fun to play. If it feels good and you don't want to put it down, then you are in the right place. The best horn for an amateur is the horn that they thank themselves for buying each time they pick it up.

And because it is so satisfying to play, it will allow you to reach a greater percentage of what is in the music. We amateurs are searching for the 80 or 90 percent mark, not the 99.8 percent mark that the pros are seeking. I submit that any competent instrument can provide it, if it clicks with your style of playing enough to motivate you to work at it.
