You guys are huge! I reported to PI at 5' 11" and 135 lbs, soaking wet. I gained about 15 lbs in the three months there, then another 15 lbs in the week of leave afterwards! (None of my uniforms would fit when I reported to LeJeune for combat training.)
Seemed like us lighter guys had an advantage at the pull-up bar, I was the first in my platoon to make twenty.
Tuba content: the horns I played while in the Corps were, in this order: Miraphone at the school, Yama 641 on Okinawa, and an old Kink 1230 (really, three valves and bell front too) with the 4th MAW in New Orleans. Oh yeah, and a bunch of sousaphones.
Had a great time, wouldn't trade it for the world, but make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. The Marines are the most "military" of the branches, and therefore perhaps not always the most "musical".
