I just played both of these horns over the weekend and they are both very nice. HUGE sound from both of them, great sound, but not terribly subtle. They are very similar, except for the usual differences b/t piston & rotary. I found the ergonomics just fine on both of them, but some people find the piston set a little big on the 45SLP. The 45SLZ had the feel of a big 4/4 sized rotary CC. Both horns are physically large, in fact, they seem bigger than most Eb's. The wrap on the 45SLP seemed much more open than I would have expected from the photo's, and the slides seemed a bit easier to get at, than on the 45SLZ. Honestly, I thought that the 45SLZ was too big and wild for me to handle, but I might be able to find the reins on the 45SLP. I'm a rotary kind of a guy, but I liked the 45SLP a little better, though neither is on my short list of horns to buy.

Like other posters said, if you decide to buy one of these, be sure to try several examples of both. Best of luck in your search.
