I would not base a potential 30 year career move on the 10 weeks it takes to get through Army Basic Combat Training. Millions have gone through basic training and survived and flourished. It does suck while you are there, but then it is over.
My personal opinion from indirect reports is that the Air Force bands are the "best" musical gigs. The Army is an excellent choice for those with student loans and who are only looking for a 4 year hitch.
Again, I am speaking about regular band units. The special bands are a whole other ball game and they are all excellent, regardless of which branch you choose.
