"Yamalloy", I believe, is the junk that they made their pistons out of until the mid '80's. I think that was the stuff that worked great when it was constantly lubricated, but froze and corroded quickly when not used. A friend of mine has a Yamaha Flugel of that vintage and the valves are tough to keep up. Nowadays the use the same monel compound bach uses, except they machine it much closer.

What was king using for all those years on the tuba valves? That stuff seems to hold up very well, similar to stainless. Of course all stainless is just iron/carbon/nickle alloy (I think!). Basically steel and nickle.
