Sometime ago, I played some concerts with Joe Alessi Sr., who was for many years a trumpet player in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. I asked him who he thought was the best operatic conductor he had ever worked with. Unhesitatingly, he said "Tulio Serafin".
