Start playing euphonium. The smaller mouthpiece and instrument will ease up the ache created by playing up that high. Once you can easily hit an octave or so over that d on the euph, hitting it on the tuba should be easy peasy.

Also, as mentioned in other posts, do not cut your "low rider" chops to bits by playing high all the time. I did that, and wo, it really tor a chunk out of the presence and stability of my low end. BALANCE MY FRIEND.

I did all the above, and now i can hit that d your talking about as solid as any other note, without the warbely, forced and unstable strain of how i used to do it.

Oh, by the way: don't take Jacobs or my word for it. Try it for a week. If it don't work, well, my advice was crap and you should trying something else.
