Nevr-Dull works well on the bits of tarnished brass where the lacquer has worn off, and it won't hurt the lacquer that remains (it has no abrasive compound like many polishes). For the lacquer, use any good furniture polish. I like Lemon Pledge. That should work fine on the painted parts, too--no need for the detergent cleaning of a car wax.
