I want to try the Laskey mpcs on my tubas, but don't want to spend a zillion dollars. I can definitely play higher on a narrower cup, but it also doesn't seem to get the same darkness of tone as my wider cup (different brands.) Can somebody tell me if there is an inherent difference in tone between cup widths if they have the same depth, or do I have to go deeper if I go narrower, to get the same tone quality? I like the tone quality of the wider cup on my tubas, but they are harder to play high with it.
