Who are you guys kidding? “YOUR SOLO INSTRUMENTS”, like you’re a bunch of James Galway, Kenny G or Yo-Yo Ma’s? Come on, how much solo work does even a pro-tuba player get ( well, alright, there is Pat S.), and how much sense does it make to have a separate horn just for that purpose?

Let’s face it, you want to own that nifty horn, and you may actually use it for 4 or 5 bars in an occasional exposed piece, but to talk about it as your “solo horn” seems a little presumptuous. You really don’t have to justify owning that horn by calling it your “solo instrument”, because if you really are a tuba player, you just don’t do that much solo work.

Have you ever heard of people coming from miles around, who are not themselves tuba players or related to the performer, to hear a solo tuba performance? Not is this lifetime, bro’.

Sometimes we do need a reality check. Nevertheless, I expect some flames from those in denial of their “equipment lust”.
