In really difficult things I have learned to play, like the Brahms horn trio, I have found the score invaluable to learn what the other parts are doing so I don't mess up my entrances. Eventually I reach a point where I can play my part with the CD using just my part, and when I can do that without messing up the entrances....I know I'm ready to go to a "real" rehearsal and not mess that up either. More or less...because we usually have instruments missing, and sometimes the cue I am used to hearing on the CD is absent in the real orchestra. I've
