there is a flip side to that coin, though. I've organized both "modern" music tours and quintet tours. Quintets are an easy sell to school music programs. Now, don't count on making money off of this at first.. but you will get your name around. Start local, work concentric circles around your homebase, call every middle school and high school band director you can.. most would love to invite a quintet to come and play for their students. In many ways, it beats playing in a smoky bar! Getting your name around in the begining is just as important as being paid.
