I tried a rotary valve Gonitz F and really liked it. However, I had to push the tuning slide in the whole way to get the F in the staff up to pitch (A=440). On other tubas I normally have the slide out an inch or more. On the Gronitz piston valve F tuba, which I was trying at the same time with the same tuner, I had to have the slide out way more than an inch. I wonder if this particular rotory valve tuba was an oddball, or if this is a problem typical of that model?
