The total possible motion on my main tuning slide is approximately 3 inches. Since the "neutral" position is around 1 inch out, I have about 1 inch to raise and about 2 inches to lower pitches. Even with this I still have to use alternate fingerings on some notes but I've become accustomed to the process. Thankfully, I don't have any intonation problems that aren't covered by these 2 options.
