If you only want to spend around $6500, you should still be able to find a good medium/large CC tuba. I tried the 4/4 and 5/4 Gronitz CC tubas at the Midwest Clinic back in December and felt they deserved more attention than they are getting. Tuba Exchange had them on exhibit. Tuba Ex. also had a prototype CC by Nate Griffith; very nice, probably the only CC one would reallly ever need. Kalisons are a known commodity, as are Rudys Miraphones etc... Of the 5 finalists at the last Marine Band audition; there were 3 Hirsbrunners(a rotary HB2 won) a PT6 and a ...4/4 Rudy rotary. Of course the play what you like axiom applies here. I'm still using my Cerveny piggy for 90% of my gigs outside the band..... Did this help at all? I suspect not... I'll shut up now.
