Jacob, the more valves you use the longer the tubing and consequently often times the horn will feel stuffier or have more the resistance when you use all four valves. Some horns even use larger diameter tubing on the fourth and fifth valves to help aleviate this. As was mentioned earlier most 3 valve horns are student models and are therefore smaller and have a smaller bore size. Horns with larger bore size usually will take more air simply because there is not as much resistance to the air flow. You will feel like you are running out f air faster. It may be more difficult to hold a long note or phrase. ken k
