Dave is the best jazz tuba player on the planet. Apologies to all the Pilafian and Sass fans. he swings harder and has more concrete ideas than most horn players. I had the luxury of hearing Dave play on a daily basis at the Old Circus World south of Orlando in the late 70's and early 80's. I was playing the house band while Dave played the rodeo band. As our sets didn't overlap, I ran over to hear him play. Not only is he a great jazz player, he is one of the best pure tuba players I have ever heard. This cd is awesome!!! Get his Christmas Cookies cd with Charlie Bertini(another great central FL Trumpet player) and the follow up "Second Batch". If you can find them, get all Dave's recordings with the Rosie O'Grady's Goodtime Band, if for nothing else than his treatment of "When Your'e Smilin'" which always leaves me doing the same.
