I have been curious about this question for years. Are there any real advantages to switching to a CC horn? Am I missing anything by not playing a CC horn?
I've spent my entire tuba life in a BBb world. 15 years of active duty army bands, currently play tuba for the CO Nat'l Guard Band. (The Army only buys BBb horns.) I play in concert band, a dixie band, and occasionally with some friends in a quintet. I've known a few CC players, they had all been tuba majors in college or orchestral players. So I've always figured that was the type of player who really need CCs.
I've been happy playing BBb horns, but have always wondered if I'm missing out on anything.
