I think that an important fact is that you are plying for your respected church. In many of these other cases, people are playing for congregations outside of their own. I think this is why you see people accepting $500 for a gig, even though it is a church it is not their own, probably because the parrish feels like paying $500 a head for musicians other than members of their church. I think that we all have to remember that some churches are businesses, and some very successfull. In the industry I am in, it is shocking to find out (when I was in Orlando), the amount of churches that do not and cannot get a tax exempt number from the state, because they make too much PROFIT! I think that we should point the finger at the demand side of the equation and not the supply side (I know you weren't Joe).
