I got very hung up in all of that scholarship qualification, financial aid qualification, and skewed views that others have of how much I should spend as opposed to them when putting my kid into a very expensive school...one that the tuition could make a serious difference in our lifestyle, once we retire.

After I got over all of that stuff though, I realized a few things:

- The educational experience is NOT "owed" to our daughter nor to us. It is something that someone is offering to SELL to us. We DID NOT have to buy it.

- Anything worth having is worth paying for. If it is beyond affordability, it is not purchased. People make such choices every single day.

- The purpose of money is to spend it wisely on the very best stuff that we believe that we can use. Its purpose is NOT to leave it to our heirs once we are dead.
