I was on a gig as a bass player for a gospel jazz band. We were playing outside at a summer festival when a thunderstorm came through and killed the power. In about 10 minutes, the weather cleared, and the band wanted to continue the concert without power. (Here is where the pick-up begins.) I was prepared to play tuba on an arrangement of "When the Saints Go Marching In". I was not in posession of my upright (had an EUB), and ended up playing tuba on all of the bass parts for the remainder of the gig.

2 hours of 4 beat swing.

I died that day, as I was playing a jupiter 582L and a large conn helleberg.

I now have a 3000 watt portable generator that I will take with me from now on, as opposed to taking a $8,000 upright bass into a rain storm.

Been there, done that. It hurts.

Tom
