This seems to come up with every issue.

The TUBA JOURNAL is a very specialized publication by Tuba/Euphonium Players FOR Tuba/Euphonium Players. It is a trade journal just as much as the Journal of the AMA but on a much smaller basis. Like all trade journals, content comes from members. Here there is a lack of support. Most articles seem to come from the academic community which can be a bore for non-academians but is expected by university administrations.

Sice the TUBA JOURNAL has no budget to pay for articles, what can you do? Get off your ass and write something! Something can be written about horns, players, music, recordings, and a million other aspects of playing. I just received a journal yesterday and found a lot of information ranging from Frank Byrne explaining the selections on PORTRAIT OF AN ARTIST, to euphonium parts in THE PLANETS and, if you look carefully, a review written by Harvey Phillips!

Speaking of Harvey, he had a sign on his studio that went something like this: "There are those who do and those who don't and those who wondered what happened." Don't just bitch at every issue, get off your ass and write something!
