I am fixing up an old Cerveny 4-valve. It's not in too bad a shape-the usual dents, etc. The lacquer is pretty bad, and I was just going to strip it off and leave the tuba in raw brass.

I work for a gas turbine manufacturer, and some of the guys at work say they can nickel plate all or part of my tuba for me. (We have silver-plate capability, but I don't think I can talk the plating shop into doing that.)

I have seen the St. Petersburg tubas in nickel plate, and was just wondering what anybody's opinions are. Now I'm thinking about nickel plating the valves and tuning slides, and relacquering the bows and bells. How does that sound?
