I don't think I would try to do decorative nickel plating on a tuba in an industrial environment. I've done a little copper, nickel, silver, and gold plating and I can tell you without reservation that the nickel is the most difficult to control. Nickel tends to burn if everything isn't 'just right'. Once that happens the nickel is very tough to remove. Forget the guess-work and send it to a professional. As far as nickel plating the valves (I guess you mean the pistons), that would be a toughie, also. Thin sections and sharp edges tend to burn. Again... send your pistons to a pro... like Anderson's in Elkhart.
