For college, I agree with Hank...you'd be better derved with a large 4/4 horn and a good F. Maybe a matched set of a Gronitz PCM and PF 125.

As far as 6/4 horns are concerned, MANY people have won jobs (even recently) on smaller equipment. I believe Gene Pokorny won his job on a 4/4 Hirsbrunner, and in fact most of the finalists were playing smaller-than-BAT instruments. You could probably do just fine with a great middle of the road horn until you land a big job.
